What did Jesus say?

Come forth!

Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto, who planned the attack on Pearl Harbor wrote in his diary, “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.”

As paraphrased in John 11:38-44

38 Then Jesus, came to the tomb. It was a cave, and a stone lay against it. 39 Jesus said, “Take away the stone.” Martha said to Him, “Lord, by this time there is a stench, 40 Jesus said to her, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” 43 He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” 44 And he who had graveclothes, Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.

For the last 40 days this country has been on lockdown mode. It is the first time in my 58 years that I can remember anything like this. We were told to distance ourselves and stay at home to save lives. In the rhetoric, the church became non-essential. Throughout history there have been many attempts at shutting down the Word of God and His Church. With each attempt the outcome has always drawn the same conclusion; the church arose with great power. Jesus said, “I will build My church and the gates of hell will not prevail”.

There had to be a death, a tomb and a stone. The church we know, the church we created, the church without God needed to die. It was time to bury it and cover it with a stone because the stench became overwhelming. Jesus said, “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?” I believe Jesus is standing at the entrance of our imposed tombs and is shouting, “COME FORTH!” Come forth with power, come forth with resolve, come forth loosened from the old grave clothes, come forth with the sweet scent of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and come forth ALIVE!

WIN with Prayer

In John 16:33, Jesus says, "In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world". Is it possible that we sometimes read this to mean when we place our trust in Jesus, we will no longer have problems?

Look around us today. We have a world which has basically been put on hold by a virus we cannot see! There are problems: jobs lost temporarily or worse; businesses closed which may or may not recover in the forseeable future; lives which have been lost, and in some cases a fear that is paralyzing.

But, the beginning of verse 33 says this: "These things I have spoken to you, that in ME you may have peace." Jesus spoke these words to the disciples as Judas and the accusers met to plot His arrest. He knew He would be arrested, forsaken, rejected, mocked, tortured, humiliated, and finally crucified within the next 24 hours. By most definitions, these sound like finality. But Jesus.....But God.... has overcome the world.

Will we still face problems? Yes, But Jesus will give us the strength to come through each one. Lamentations 3:22-23 Through the Lords mercies, we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning. Great is Your faithfulness!

Let's all remain prayerful that our lives will turn right side up soon, maybe not the "normal" we had, but better because of our experiences.

A Moment In Austria

Goodnews from Jon & Ang

August 2019 I found myself on a tributary of the Danube River in the village of Marchegg, Austria. It was warm and peaceful. On the other side of the river, a stone’s throw away, is Slovakia, a different country altogether. Looming above was a statue of an eagle taking flight with German words referencing a checkpoint at the river crossing. Reflecting upon the Cold War, I could imagine Soviet guards in towers just on the other side of the river… and a few years before that, the Nazi regime and ideology that controlled Austria. Wow. This place! This history is intense!

A Catholic monastery, where monks sing prayers, is situated a short stroll from the river. I wonder what prayers were sung there during the communist Cold War or with Nazis in control during WW2? This is where we were about to sing our prayers that very evening. I was there with Transform to perform at Key 2 Life Festival! In a field under the night sky we took the stage and had a concert to remember.

In the deepest most emotional part of the set I remember looking out beyond the people and through the trees toward the river. I remember thinking about the evil that influenced the Nazi and Soviet armies that advanced through the area in times past. But no more! All the evil of the past could not prevail against what God was doing now! On that night, in that place, we were worshipping King Jesus, declaring the love of God, and honoring Him! Nothing would stop the advancement of God’s Kingdom, His ways and His purposes!

Matthew 16:18

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Only one moment was better. We asked the people, many of whom knew “about” Jesus, if they really “knew” Him-- had they ever sincerely asked Jesus into their life? We watched as hands went up into the air, responding, “Yes, we genuinely want to know Jesus.” God knows who understood and meant it! Yaaaas! Those are the forever moments! Moments of decision that determine people's eternal destination… these are the moments we live for!

What about you? Do you really know Jesus? Perhaps today is the day to invite Him into your life for real!

Here’s a song for you called “Forever.” It’s a conversation with Jesus about this relationship with Him. Have a listen; read the lyrics, and if you haven’t already, please respond to Jesus and invite Him into your life. Relationship with Him can start today….and it lasts FOREVER.
